Eikon Empowering Families

What is Eikon Empowering Families?

Eikon recently did a survey of parents and carers with children and young people with mental health issues or concerns. The overwhelming result was that parents and carers were feeling disempowered with a lack of control around their child(ren)’s mental health and wellbeing.

With confusion around where to look for support, what is ‘normal’ child or teenager behaviour and what are signs for concern, along with sometimes long waiting lists to access support when needed we realised that there was a need for parents to go to somewhere they could access more immediate support and signposting, as well as just go and chat to other parents in a similar position.

Eikon Empowering Families has been set up in collaboration with parents and carers to support them to get what they need in this key area. There is an offline meetup once a month where parents come to:

  • let off steam
  • share experiences
  • share emotions
  • or simply just to be alongside people who understand

In addition to this we have set up a closed Facebook group to ensure that families can support each other in-between sessions (and for those who cannot make the monthly meetups). This group has been set to the highest privacy settings and is accessed by invitation only.

The first monthly group is currently being piloted in Woking and the next meeting is:

Date: Monday 11th June
Venue: Sheerwater Youth Centre, Blackmore Crescent, Woking GU21 5NS
Timings: 10.45am to 12.45pm
