The Youth Development Board (YDB) is a committee of self-referring young people who want to make a difference, grow in self esteem, gain new skills and drive forward the ethos of The Eikon Charity.
Previously, the YDB was open only to young people who attended senior schools directly liked with The Eikon Charity. In 2014, we opened up membership of the YDB to any young person who wanted to have their voice heard and become an ambassador for The Eikon Charity’s work.
The YDB provides a unique opportunity for young people to develop both personally and professionally and gain leadership skills in the process. Rebecca, a previous member of our YDB, says:
“The YDB offered me a way to learn transferable skills that could be used in later life (i.e. during business meetings) – such as how to develop ideas and take everybody else’s view into account when working on my own. It also meant I could meet up with other young people who shared the passion and drive to make Eikon even better.”
Marc, another member of the YDB, said:
“The Eikon YDB has helped me understand the parts of being a leader and the understanding of what the YDB can do for Eikon. The YDB involved me in the process of designing the new Eikon HQ. I was invited to London with the Eikon Director to discuss the ideas with the designers.“
The Eikon YDB is registered with vInspired. vInspired is the UK’s leading youth volunteering charity, providing 14-25 year olds with volunteering and social action opportunities.
