Children & Young People Counsellor

Delivering counselling sessions to clients identified through the Mindsight Surrey CAMHS partnership. As a counsellor, you’ll hold a weekly caseload, will work as part of a team, undertaking mental health assessment and delivering a range of evidence-based treatment for children and young people. (This may include individual, parent & child, sibling, family and group interventions.)
The service is underpinned by CYP IAPT principles and the post holder would support and assist the core aims of this in the service.

  • Provide time-limited and clinically appropriate counselling sessions for CYP’s aged 7-18 years depending on experience.
  • To attend and actively participate in regular clinical supervision once every six weeks
  • To work co-operatively and under the management of the Counselling Lead and The Eikon Charity staff to ensure the highest quality of delivery and support
  • To complete relevant reports, records of service provision and other documentation associated with the Counselling service
  • To work within the BACP, UKCP ethical framework and be aware of and ensuring compliance with legal requirements, internal policies, safeguarding and data protection regulations
  • To assist with the development and of the service by sharing feedback on performance
    To be aware of and follow Eikons Safeguarding and data protection policies and procedures throughout the course of the work
  • Qualifications Professional Level 4 Counselling / Psychotherapy including CYP CPD - Essential
  • BACP/UKCP accredited - Essential
  • Experience Recorded evidence of working with children and young people with mental health difficulties 11-18 years old - Essential
  • Ability to involve and empower parents/ carers to promote lasting impact - Essential
  • Experience of working with younger ages Desirable
    Skills & Competencies Ability to personally manage a sensitive, traumatic and potentially emotionally distressing caseload. - Essential
    High standards of written and verbal communication - Essential
    IT and administrative skills, database management - Essential
    Ability to protect vulnerable young children by following national, local and Eikons safeguarding policy and guidance - Essential
    Ability to follow data protection policies and guidance - Essential
    Other Full UK Driving License and able to travel around Surrey - Essential
    Ability to work core hours of 9-5pm but include occasional evening work by agreement - Essential
