Volunteer Mentor

About Eikon:

The Eikon Charity supports children and young people to overcome difficulties, become resilient and develop into confident adults who contribute positively to their communities. Wherever a young person is on that journey and whether they’re feeling good about life or are really struggling, we’re there for them. We believe in their potential.

We work with young people directly in schools and communities across Surrey and beyond, one-to-one, in groups and clubs – and with and through partners, supporting them to deliver services that improve young people’s physical and emotional wellbeing and mental health. We work in partnership with schools, communities, health & social care, and other organisations, because we believe that working together works.

We are looking for volunteers to join our Mentoring Programme and support young people in schools in the South West Surrey area during term time.  We currently deliver our mentoring programme at Kings College, Guildford; Weydon School, Farnham and Woolmer Hill School, Haslemere

Volunteer mentors will receive thorough induction training before commencing their role in school and will have the opportunity of ongoing training and development throughout their time volunteering with Eikon.

Role:

  • Developing positive one to one relationships with young people who may be experiencing difficulties in their lives and/or want to make a change in their lives
  • Listening to and supporting young people, showing empathy and understanding, remaining non-judgmental and caring
  • Engaging with young people to motivate, inspire and encourage potential
  • Setting goals with young people
  • Respecting the confidentiality of young people including establishing and maintaining appropriate boundaries
  • Reporting any safeguarding or welfare concerns that arise
  • Keeping accurate records of mentoring sessions using Eikon’s database system
  • Participating in regular one to one supervision with the Mentoring Coordinator and team meetings
  • Working within Eikon’s internal policies, safeguarding, information sharing and data protection regulations
  • Offering at least 2 hours per week time commitment, in school, term time only
