West Byfleet Golf Club’s Captains select local children’s charity, Eikon, as their chosen charity in the club’s 100th Year.
The Club and Ladies’ Captains of West Byfleet Golf Club have chosen The Eikon Charity as the Club’s main charity partner throughout 2022. A series of events are planned at the club throughout the year, including Charity Bridge days and raffles. The centrepiece of their fundraising efforts is the annual Charity Day, which will be held on Friday 29th of July. Up to 36 teams will take part in a golf competition followed by dinner and a charity auction. All funds raised on the day will be donated to Eikon. The Captains are also planning to undertake a personal challenge during 2022 to raise additional funds.
Eikon is extremely honoured to be chosen as the West Byfleet Golf Club Captains’ Charity for 2022, especially as this year they are celebrating the 100-year anniversary of West Byfleet Golf Club.
Founder and Chief Executive of The Eikon Charity, Chris Hickford MBE, stated:
“We are only able to help the large number of young people that we do because of the support of kind and generous people. We are so grateful to the fantastic members of West Byfleet Golf Club for choosing Eikon as their charity of the year.”
Men’s Captain, Tom McMahon and Ladies Captain, Linda Portlock stated:
“We are really pleased to have Eikon as our charity partner for 2022. Based under a mile from our clubhouse, Eikon support children and young people to overcome difficulties, become resilient and thrive. Over the last couple of years, the number of young people in need of support, both in schools and in the community, has increased significantly. Eikon are playing an important role in addressing this in our local area. We hope members will join us in giving them their support.”
The Eikon Charity provides much needed support to young people in Surrey who are showing early signs of poor emotional wellbeing or mental health. These young people can be struggling with a range of serious challenges – they might be experiencing anxiety, loneliness, family loss, or be victims of bullying or abuse.
By providing a safe place for young people to turn to, Eikon helps prevent unnecessary harm and even saves lives. In partnership with schools, communities, health & social care and other organisations, Eikon supports young people to develop the skills to respond positively to life’s challenges and thrive.

Notes to editors:
When this charity was set up we looked for a name that represented what we’re about. The word eikon (pronounced icon) comes from the Greek, meaning an image or picture; our hope was that we could help young people imagine a better future, unburdened by anxiety – that we could help them re-imagine what is possible and be well. We’ve not given up on that hope.
