Tillingbourne Junior’s Wellbeing Ambassadors lead on Children’s Mental Health Week Assembly

The theme for this year’s Children’s Mental Health Week was ‘Know Yourself, Grow Yourself’.

Our Eikon School’s Team created a range of free resources for all schools and encouraged schools participating in the Eikon Wellbeing Ambassador programme to have their ambassadors organise assemblies and activities across the week.

Tillingbourne Junior School were among the schools that organised a whole-school assembly to commemorate the week. The event was a collaborative effort between the school’s ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) and the Wellbeing Ambassador Lead, with pupils contributing their ideas to the presentation.

Sandra the school ELSA has kindly shared details of this successful assembly and the positive impact on students and staff.

Sandra says –

“After an initial introduction to Children’s Mental Health Week and this year’s theme, the children shared what they had learned during their Eikon Wellbeing Ambassador training session. This included an explanation of what wellbeing is and how we can look after it using the 5 Ways to Wellbeing.

We used some of the assembly slides provided by Eikon for Children’s Mental Health Week and also made our own signs to hold up with definitions of Wellbeing and the 5 Ways to Wellbeing. Each child contributed by holding signs and/or reading out their lines.

We showed the 5 Ways to Wellbeing video that had been used on our training, as well as a couple of photos taken on the day.”

“The assembly encouraged children to feel empowered about how they can look after their own wellbeing in a positive way and to understand that the things we choose to do can help support how we feel emotionally. As part of the presentation, children were asked to think about how they already might be using the five ways in their daily lives.

One or two of the children presenting had expressed being nervous prior to the assembly but all did fantastically on the day and I think are clearly proud to hold the role they do and are keen to do more as wellbeing ambassadors for the school.”

With such positive outcomes, Tillingbourne Junior School hopes to continue hosting similar assemblies in future years. Organisers encourage other schools to embrace the opportunity to highlight the importance of mental wellbeing, with Sandra emphasising that ” The 5 Ways to Wellbeing is a valuable framework that benefits both children and adults alike.”
