From Year 7 and beyond: How our Fullbrook transitions programme helped empower students to build confidence and resilience.

Our Eikon Youth Support Practitioners are embedded within secondary schools across Surrey. They offer one-to-one support and create safe spaces for students during the school day, while also leading activities designed to help children and young people thrive.

By responding to the needs of students within their school our Eikon Practitioners provide tailored support ensuring they listen to young people and shape Eikon services around what they need.

Recently our Youth Support Practitioner Claire, based at Fulbrook School, organised a transition programme for Year 7 students. The course was designed to empower students to find the inner and outer resources they need – skills, knowledge and resilience – as they develop and navigate life at secondary school.

When the school evaluated the group’s impact, they sought feedback from the students, and their responses were overwhelmingly positive.

“I liked the activities, and it made me feel more confident.”

“It was calming when you got there, and everyone was excited to join the activities.”

The students spoke of how the group offered a safe and reliable space, connected them with a trusted adult, and built their confidence to tackle challenges throughout the term.

The group were keen for the programme to continue so following such positive feedback the course was extended to run over the whole term, and every participant recommended that the programme should run for future Year 7 cohorts.

As our Youth Support Practitioners are in school permanently, they can provide sustained support for young people right the way through their whole school life from year seven to year 11.

Students can access this support service if they are a current student at a school that has an Eikon Youth Support Practitioner. Students can self-refer or be referred by school staff, parents and carers, or other professionals.
