Mike Pyman tackles The 5-5-75 Challenge!

One of Eikon’s Trustees and ex-beneficiaries, Mike Pyman, has set himself an incredible fundraising challenge for April 2021.

Mike is running 5 miles, every 5 hours for 75 hours – the equivalent of just under 3 marathons! He has previously benefitted from the help and support that Eikon provided him during a difficult time in his life.

Mike’s Story

‘Until secondary school I grew up in a very loving and happy home. At 12, my parents separated, and my life was beginning to fall apart. As a result, I was missing lessons. I was close to being excluded. I was getting severe panic attacks. Eikon supported me through this difficult time and persuaded my school to have faith in me.

At 13, my friend Matthew died from anaphylaxis just minutes after he left me to be taken to hospital. At 16, my mother was rushed to hospital after I found her motionless and unable to talk. Doctors found that a large tumour had ruptured her bowel. She was given months to live. Eikon helped me again and Chris Hickford, CEO, was providing food and transport to my family so that I could continue to study.

My mother died 2 weeks before I received my GCSE results. However, thanks to Eikon I was able to secure good grades. Eikon gave me the mental strength, the techniques and the will power that it takes to push beyond your limits. I am so grateful for Eikon. Nothing is impossible. Bring on the 5-5-75 challenge and I will face it with a smile on my face. If you can be anything, be what you needed growing up.’

Mike is passionate about ensuring young people have the best chance in life and his own personal experience has inspired him to tackle this fundraising challenge for Eikon. Donations have begun rolling in for Mike, but he still has a way to go to reach his target of £750, so if you would like to support him you can do so through his Just Giving page – https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/mike-pyman-5-5-75
