Local children’s charity, The Eikon Charity, has secured places in Surrey’s largest half marathon, taking place on Sunday 6th March 2022.
The charity hopes that the challenge event will raise money to support its vital work with vulnerable local young people.
The Eikon Charity helps children struggling with a wide range of serious challenges, such as experiencing family loss, loneliness, depression, or being the victim of neglect, bullying or abuse. Some feel so overwhelmed with anxiety that they deliberately harm themselves. Working in schools and communities across Surrey, the charity focuses on disadvantaged and at-risk children to help them overcome these challenges, find ways forward and thrive.
Chris Hickford, Chief Executive of The Eikon Charity, says:
“Our work has never been more important than it is right now. More children and young people than ever are really struggling – tragically, even to the point where they are taking their own lives. By taking part and raising money for The Eikon Charity, you can increase the number of wonderful and deeply caring professionals that nurture these children to better and sustained health. Please run the Surrey Half marathon and raise funds so that we can help more children. Thank you.”
All runners taking part in the award-winning Mercer Surrey Half Marathon for The Eikon Charity will receive dedicated, expert support every step of the way – with both training and fundraising, as well as a branded running vest and finishers medal.
Katy Thomas, a 2021 Surrey Half Marathon runner for Eikon, says:
“The team was such a positive support and very encouraging. I got nervous earlier on this year and considered pulling out, but their smiley personality and advice for fundraising helped me to stay motivated.”
